International Day of the Girl

11 October

International Day of the Girl is a global day of action dedicated to recognizing girls’ rights, amplifying their voices, and addressing the challenges that prevent girls from reaching their full potential.

Girls around the world continue to face barriers to education, health care, safety, economic opportunity, and leadership. Many are also affected by gender-based violence, child marriage, human trafficking, and discrimination.

Zonta’s Commitment to Girls

Building a better world for women and girls is at the heart of Zonta’s mission. Zonta International recognizes International Day of the Girl as one of its annual days of action and calls on Zontians to listen to girls, raise awareness of the issues affecting them, and advocate for meaningful change.

Zonta members support girls by:

  • Advocating to end child marriage and gender-based violence

  • Expanding access to education and leadership opportunities

  • Supporting Z Clubs for secondary-school students

  • Encouraging girls to participate in civic and community leadership

  • Promoting opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics

  • Recognizing young women through the Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award

  • Creating safe opportunities for girls to speak, lead, and be heard

Take Action

Zonta clubs and community partners can observe International Day of the Girl by:

  • Inviting girls to discuss the issues affecting their schools and communities

  • Hosting a leadership, advocacy, or career-development program

  • Supporting a school, youth organization, Z Club, or girls’ service program

  • Raising awareness about child marriage, trafficking, and gender-based violence

  • Recognizing girls who are making a difference

  • Asking local leaders to include girls in decisions that affect their futures

  • Sharing educational resources and stories about the achievements of girls

Listen to Girls. Invest in Their Futures.

When girls have access to education, safety, resources, and leadership opportunities, entire communities benefit.

On 11 October—and throughout the year—Zonta District 3 encourages everyone to listen to girls, support their goals, and advocate for their rights.

Together, we can build a world in which every girl has the opportunity to learn, lead, and thrive.
